This study concerns itself with the surname JAUNDRELL.
There is an interesting possibility that the name has Russian connections. Reviewing the North American census returns there are several entries for a possible JAINDRILL variant. Bearers of this surname report their Country of Origin as Russia. [I have a memory of doing a search that returned information on elite Russian Bowman]
My 'name-chasing' grew out of researching my own Shropshire ancestors. In doing this I discovered that the JAUNDRELL surname was more widely spread. Although those bearing the name can be found predominately in the English counties of Shropshire, Lancashire, Cheshire, West Midlands, and Wales they can also be found in Australia, New Zealand, North America and South Africa.
Many of the original bearers of the JAUNDRELL surname were stonemasons. Later, many were coal miners - moving to different townships on the various coal fields of Shropshire, Lancashire, Warwickshire and Staffordshire.
I have been 'name chasing' my family-name for two decades. Currently I am doing a data-cleanse/tidy-up on my database. Mainly correcting location details and merging individuals. As I do this I am looking to document the surname county by county and publish that detail as each county becomes available.
There have been some 'sidetrack' activities on the journey.

There are some easily identified and known variants: Jaundrill, Jandrell. Jandrill, Johndrell - there are no doubt more and these may well be considered as part of the on-going scope of the study.
Some of the odder variants identified are: Jandl, Goundrell, Goundrill et al. The potential use of 'G' rather than 'J' as first letter is found on the eastern side of England. The 'Jandl' variant being found in the south west.
One of the earliest locations for the surname is Castle/Church Pulverbatch in the Condover Hundred in the county of Shropshire. [Along with Yeardsley cum Whaley, a township in the ancient parish of Taxal in the Macclesfield hundred of Cheshire.]
In 1086, Pulverbatch is recorded in the Domesday Book with Roger the Hunter as tenant in chief. It was valued at 1 pound 10 shillings and comprised plough-land (5 plough teams), woodland (100 pigs), 7 villagers, 4 slaves and 2 riders.
The JAUNDRELL name (and its variants) can be found in many of the English counties and in several Welsh ones - particularly in the Welsh Marches areas of Montgomeryshire, Radnorshire, Brecknockshire and Monmouthshire, Shropshire, Herefordshire, Gloucestershire et al.
As more worldwide travel became an option bearers of the name could be found in Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Canada and North America.
NORTH AMERICA
North American census returns show many individuals bearing the JANDRALL/JANDRELL/JANDRILL/JANDROLL/JANDRULL variants - these individuals originating from the same family from the Welsh Marches who headed for Nebraska and Wyoming. Those bearing the JAUNDRELL/JAUNDRILL variant stayed on the eastern seaboard - New York, New Jersey, Connecticut - these individuals originating from a single family leaving St Helens in Lancashire in the 1900s.

Search results based on a name variable of J*N*D*R*L* and Find My Past
For comparison I have done a search using a name variable of G*N*D*R*L* and Find My Past. The results gained are shown in the table below.
HOWEVER!!! there is a greater likelihood of rows returned in this search being discounted because of them being poor GOUNDRILL candidates.
