Covid-19 impact statement Guild of One-Name Studies – COVID-19 Impact statement The priority of the Guild Trustees is to ensure the well-being of our members during these difficult times and to offer every support to them with their research and studies. The Guild of One-Name Studies continues to make available as many of its services to its members and to the public as possible, but there continues to be some impact and interruption. Meetings: It has been necessary to postpone or cancel meetings, including our annual conference, seminars and regional meetings. Where possible these meetings are being held online. Events: There have also been cancellations or postponements of genealogical fairs and events where the Guild would normally be present. The Committee is looking at alternative ways to promote the Guild and engage with members and the public. Marriage Challenges: Marriage Challenges that were planned will be delayed until such time as the relevant Record Offices re-open. Financial impact: There will be little or no financial impact. Our reserves are held in the bank and there is no exposure to stock markets or other investments. We have taken action to postpone the Conference. The Committee will continue to review finances in the usual way. Conference: The 2020 Conference has been postponed until 2021, reducing the financial risk that may have arisen from cancellation. The Conference organisers have been in contact with delegates about their options to leave their bookings for next year or to receive a refund. Annual General Meeting: The 2020 Annual General Meeting was held online on 25 April 2020, with 98 members attending. Administration: The Committee has agreed to hold its meetings online for the foreseeable future. Minutes of all Committee meetings continue to be available on the website in the members area. Seminars: The Seminar Sub-Committee (SemSub) is also holding its meetings online. The seminar that was due to be held on 16 May was converted to an online webinar. The August seminar has been re-scheduled to October 2021. Arrangements for other seminars remain under review. In the meantime, members can find a wealth of material to explore on the website recorded at previous conferences and seminars. Guild shop and DNA kits: The Guild shop and ordering of DNA kits continue to operate as usual but there may be delays in delivery of orders beyond our control. Other activities: Wherever possible, the Guild will continue its other activities and to offer support to its members through the current circumstances. The helpline and mailbox remain open as usual for any questions or concerns. Updated and agreed by the Guild Committee: 30 May 2020
