IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT from the developers:

We have recently made the decision to retire Custodian (after 28 years!).

It has become increasingly difficult to develop due to high costs and changing technology. We would like to thank all our Custodian users for their support – in some cases for many years.

If you are a current user and require a new key due to change of computer, please contact us by email as we will be continuing to supply these for a while.

Custodian is not a family tree program, but a series of databases with pre-defined forms, specially designed to store genealogical information.

Every genealogist and family historian collects masses of information over the years and using traditional methods a lot of this information cannot easily be searched. Custodian lets you store, index and organise this information in dedicated databases and creates a Master Index.

Minimum System Requirements

Windows – XP/Vista/Win 7/Win 8/Win10

Optional – Printer, internet access (recommended for updates)

Please note: Custodian has been written for the Windows platform. Currently it is not available for the Mac.

Use specialised forms for many record types, build family trees, compile mini-biographies, maintain a library list and keep track of your correspondents and research notes.

Custodian can be used for general family history research, one-name studies, indexing projects, local history and one-place studies. Keep a computer-based version of all your paper records, documents and lists in one place and minimise endless searching for paperwork.

Custodian has pre-defined forms for Birth, Marriage and Death Certificates, Parish Registers, Apprentices, Monumental Inscriptions, Probate, IGI and Vital Records, Taxes and Population lists, Parish chest, Poor Law, Census returns, School Records, Service Records, Published Sources, Pictures, Research Notes, GEDCOM and other records.
