Webinar Spotlight on….Genealogy the Next Generation

Posted 2 December 2021 by Julie Goucher

Genealogy the Next Generation making the genealogy community a welcoming space for all age groups.

Dr Janet Few is shining the spotlight on Why we need to make the genealogy community more inclusive, with particular reference to age. What are the current barriers? What needs to be done? The important part of this session will be the discussion afterwards.

What will people learn? What problems/difficulties might it help with? Why young people current feel excluded/unwelcome. What can be done by individuals, societies and institutions to overcome this?

Dr Janet Few is President of the Family History Federation and long-time Guild member who was once (many decades ago) a young genealogist. Passionate advocate for young people’s genealogy.

This is something everyone needs to address, so why not join us in an extended Guild webinar, lasting around 90 minutes which will include not only hearing from Janet, but also include discussion.

The webinar took place on 16 December 2021. It is a longer webinar, as there was extended questions. This was an important topic and we are likely to hold a discussion session online, using Zoom during 2022, so stay tuned for details.

Janet provided a lengthy handout/syllabus which can be found HERE

I am attending the seminar. I can only hear. There is a chat box with only one message and is apparently not operational. I have posted questions, but no response. I’m listening now, but I have no way of interacting. It is said I’m “audio only”. I’m really disappointed I can’t communicate. I’ve tried logging off and on. I’ve tried the phone link but no ability to communicate. Just letting you know in case I’m in error or there is a problem or in case there is a problem you should know about.

    Hi Doug,

I have replied to your comment by email, apologies you were not able to communicate with us easily.

This was a really interesting and thought provoking webinar, so much so we may well hold a impromptu discussion event via Zoom, so please stay tuned for details.

    Best wishes,
    Julie
