Stephen Bertrand Penfold
Birth Date: 11 Feb 1896
Death Date: 4 Mar 1959
Service Branch: 2/6th Royal Warwickshire Regiment
Service Number: 241746
Story:

Stephen Bertrand Penfold was born in Haywards Heath, Sussex and on leaving school became a carpenter.  He joined the Territorial Army on 20th March 1912 and served with the Royal Warwickshire Regiment in France for 62 days before being wounded in his right wrist, most probably in the action at Fromelles.  He was discharged from military service on 26 March 1917 being no longer physically fit for war service.

He initially took employment as an insurance agent and thereafter started his own business as a confectioner and tobacconist in a shop in Tunbridge Wells.

In later life he returned to the insurance industry becoming a branch manager in East Dulwich for the London Manchester Assurance Company.  It was at his desk that he was found collapsed.  He was taken to hospital where he died a week later.
