Robert Edward Drake b 1878 was the seventh son of John Drake and Ellen Louisa (formerly Todd). (John Drake was a clergyman and the Rector of Great Wratting, Suffolk, for many years). The family descends from a prominent Devon family.

Robert was a Captain in the 1st Battalion of the Lincolnshire Regiment, and died 8 Sep 1914 at Aisne. He was 36 years old and unmarried. He is buried in the North East part of Bezu-le-Guery Communal Cemetery.
