John James Molyneux known as Jack to his family and friends was born in Southport, Lancashire  in 1888.

He joined the army as soon as he left school to escape having to work down the coal pit. He served in India in the North West frontier, winning a medal for bravery. On the outbreak of WW1 he joined one of the pals regiments and fought in France, in many of the recorded battles such as Mons, Paschendale, Vimy Ridge  and the Somme where he was the only survivor from his platoon.

He attained the rank of sergeant, and was awarded medals for heroism and gallantry. After the war he became a male nurse in Tunbridge Wells, Kent dying in 1959.
