Henry Hagger
Birth Date: 1886
Death Date: 29 Oct 1918
Service Branch: Army
Service Number: 156947
Story:

Henry Hagger – Died 29 Oct 1918, France & Flanders, Gunner, Twice wounded Service No 156947, Royal Garrison Artillery, Buried at Terlincthun British Cemetery, Wimille. Enlisted Wimbledon, Surrey.

Henry was born in the Strand Registration District in 1886 and married in 1912 at Islington Registry Office to Minnie Beavis. He was one of seven children of James Hagger and Ann McCallum who were married in Scotland, James died in 1891and Henry was living with his widowed mother in 1891 and 1901. By 1901 he was a sugar brokers clerk and living in Soho. In 1911 he and his mother were living with his married sister Annie Elizabeth (Holman) in Ponders End, Middlesex and was now a stationery clerk.

We can trace Henry’s ancestry back to his Great Grandparents William Hagger and Elizabeth (nee Preston) who were married in 1804 at Therfield, Hertfordshire. It appears from the 1821 census of Therfield that Elizabeth was still living in Therfiled as a widow, it is likely that William died in 1820 age 47.
