Awarded the Freedom of the City of London in 1915, Arthur served in the RE during WW1. After the war he became a member of the Institution of Civil Engineers. Born and married in London, he moved to Yorkshire in 1920 (possibly for work reasons) where he died in 1931. He was buried in Redcar Cemetery.
