1869 Albert Allen Ashley, b. Aston Abbots, Buckinghamshire, the son of William Humphrey Ashley, livery servant, and Maria [nee Moore]. By 1881, age 11, he had left school and was working as a printers boy. 1891 he had left the family home. 1899 Albert married Emily May Howes, a local Barnsbury girl.

1901 their firstborn son was a year old and they were living in Friern Barnet. Several more children arrived and six survived until 1911. Albert remained employed in the printing trade as a labourer. He and Emily had been married 13 years and with their large family were living at Offord Street in a 5 roomed house.

1914 28 September, at the age of 42, Albert Allen Ashley signed to serve with the Queen’s Royal West Surrey Regiment, for a one year term. He survived the war and died 1927, Islington.
