Oxfordshire DNA & Surnames Projects Webinar

Posted 7 May 2022 by Julie Goucher

On Wednesday 5 May, I welcomed Guild members, Richard Merry and Jessica Feinstein, both of whom are also members of Oxfordshire Family History Society, along with the last of the trio, Sue Honoré to the latest webinar from the Guild. This was undertaken in a different format.

This is a subject, that includes the pulling together different data sources and volunteers to achieve new insights and findings on surnames in a geographic area. There are some references to other parts of the globe, but the main focus is on the English county of Oxfordshire. You can read further information on the project HERE

In this interview with Richard, Jessica and Sue, each speaker spoke about specific elements of the project, covering the history of the Oxfordshire DNA (Richard) and Surname (Sue) projects; the process and challenges of doing these interlinked projects; data collections – finding and managing them to support the projects; process of creating a book on the topics (All) and getting it to publication (Jessica). Key findings/stories. Next steps. This is going to be a fascinating webinar and will be of interest to family historians, one-name study researchers and social historians.
