Growing up the only Widmers I knew were my immediate family and my paternal grandparents. My grandfather, Meryl Widmer (1915-2007), was an only son, his father passed away when he was 3 years old. My family moved from Ohio to California when I was a baby. We rarely traveled back to Ohio and when we did the name Widmer was still not a name I heard while visiting family. When I started my family research I was amazed to find that Widmer was actually a family with a history and did come from somewhere. I now know that my Widmer line emigrated from Switzerland in the 1850s. I now have a desire to discover, where are the rest of the Widmers, where did they come from, and where did they go.
