Guild of One-Name Studies
One-name studies, Genealogy
Category: 1 - A study where research using core genealogical datasets and transcriptions is in its early stages.
Contact: Mr Shane Watson
This study is dedicated to researching the Watson family name and its accepted variants. We are currently actively researching the early origins and spread of the name in the UK and investigating potential links between early clusters of Watsons. In addition, we are building a genealogical database dedicated to the Watson name with the aim of enabling other researching their Watson family history to find matches with other researchers.
One particular focus area is the Scottish Clan Watson, as officially recognised by the Court of the Lord Lyon. We are researching the extent of the influence of the family of the clan chiefs and on the hunt for a living heir.
There is an existing Watson Y-DNA project hosted on FamilyTreeDNA. The project is not managed by this study, but it is deemed counterproductive to start up a parallel study so we encourage all those who may be interested in participating to join the existing study.
