Hi
I was born with the surname Pinkney. As a child i hated my name and thought it was very unique, knowing only members of my immediate family with that Surname. After around 20 years i have now learnt that, in certains areas, my surname is more prolific, particularly in Yorkshire where i discovered my ancestry comes from as far back as i have been able to search.
I have started this one name study to see what i can discover about the broader use of my Surname and its variants are.
Pinkeney, Pinckney, Pinkeny, Pinkenay and perhaps other Norman variants as noted in the origin section.
Perhaps of Norman French original being a locative surname from Pinquigny, now Picuigny, a town in Picardy, in the neighbourhood of Amiens. The name perhaps migrating to the UK around the time of the Norman conquest.
