My paternal grandmother "Granny" was born a Pinchbeck and in my family tree research journey I have made contact with many "Pinchbeck" descendants, via my blog, my Ancestry Tree and most recently AncestryDNA .
My reason for starting this study is to try and establish whether all Pinchbecks are related, descended from the same family from Pinchbeck in Lincolnshire, and whether we are related to Christopher Pinchbeck, the inventor of pinchbeck alloy used in jewellery making.
Pinchback, Punchbuck, Pyncebek, Pynchbeck and Pinchbeck
The origins of the name Pinchbeck are believed to be the village of Pinchbeck in Lincolnshire.
Pinchbeck is a village and civil parish in the South Holland district of Lincolnshire, England. The civil parish population was 5,153 at the 2001 census, increasing to 5,455 at the 2011 census.
It is situated 2 miles (3.2 km) north from the centre of Spalding.
The name Pinchbeck is derived from either the Old English pinc+bece (Minnow Stream) or pinca+bece (Finch Ridge).
Possible Pinchbecks:
Sir Thomas Pinchbeck, Sheriff of Lincolnshire (c.1440-bef. 4 Nov 1492) was the son of Richard Pinchbeck and Margaret Tailboys. He married Anne Greene, daughter of Sir Thomas Greene, Sheriff of Northamptonshire and Marina Bellers, c. 1468; They had 2 sons (Thomas; & Sir John) & 1 daughter (Elizabeth, wife of John Hardwick, Gent.) - yet to be proved
A family long associated with Pinchbeck took its name from the village, one member of which was Christopher Pinchbeck b. 1650 , a watchmaker responsible for the invention of the Pinchbeck alloy, which was once used for imitating gold in cheap jewellery. - yet to be proved
William Pinchbeck (1831 – July 1893) was one of the original settlers in the Cariboo region of British Columbia, Canada. He was a member of the British Columbia Provincial Police and owned a roadhouse and many other properties in Williams Lake, British Columbia. - my 1st cousin 4x removed
