The Paveley one name study was registered with the Guild at the beginning of April 2020. Although I have had no less than four surnames in my life I started out as a Paveley. My son was born in 1983 and to stop my brain going to sleep whilst immersed in parental duties I decided to research his origins. This meant studying not only my own maiden name of Paveley but that of my then husband, Metheringham.
In the eighties there was not the luxury of home computers, the internet and super fast broadband, so once I had exhausted the known information provided by my family, augmented by census and parochial record information provided by the Church of the Latter Day Saints (LDS), my research trickled to a halt. However, I had been bitten by the bug and in the late eighties I decided to tackle the wider picture by spending a whole week standing in the search room of St Catherine's House in London manually going through all the index ledgers of births, marriages and deaths recording every single reference to Metheringham/Meatheringham and Paveley/Pavely with the intention of piecing everyone together so I could be as certain as I could be that I had the right Tom, Dick or Harry in the right family group. On my return home I laboriously typed all the information on a portable typewriter and started the task of linking families.
However, it soon became clear to me that others had been at work researching the Paveley/Pavely surname many years before I came along and it would be reinventing the wheel for me to do the same. I therefore collaborated with these people so far as my own line was concerned and concentrated on my Metheringham One Name Study which has now resulted in a website, hosted through the Guild, containing a huge amount of related data.
I now had the problem of what to do with a similar amount of data I had accrued on my son's maternal side and hence I have now registered the name with the Guild with the intention of creating a Paveley website to include not only my own research, but hopefully that of others interested in the name by making it a collaborative project. I have been in touch again with my old contacts of 30 years ago and everyone has been very supportive. Please get in touch if you can help.
At the present time the only substantial variant I am researching is Pavely which is interchangeable with Paveley, but one or two other potential variants are emerging.
However, as I said before, I am hoping this will become a collaborative study and I welcome any input from researchers of similar sounding modern names with their origins in the Paveley/Pavely source. The website is now up and running albeit in a very basic form and although all individuals are in the one tree they have their allocated branches and it is also possible to add more branches to the same tree managed by different administrators with an interest in a particular line/spelling.
