I started researching my family history in 1986, joined the Guild in 1987 and have been investigating my Rugman One-Name Study since then. During that time I also researched other branches of my tree and found that my mother’s maiden name, Maybank was also a rare name and ideal for a one-name study. I registered the name Maybank with the Guild in April 2023.
My wife, Hazel Rugman, is helping me with the Maybank one-name study.
Maybanks, Maybanke, Maybanck, Maybancke. These variants were found on the IGI, now Family Search, in the early records. Maybanks is current.
It is too early in my research to give the origin of Maybank but the earliest ancestor record of mine is for a marriage in 1672 between Phanvell Maybanck and Elizabeth Philley in Putney, London. However, the earliest records, found to date, are in the late 16th century in London.
