I started this study after trying to find out more about my paternal Livingston ancestors.
My father David Hamilton Livingston (1924-1999)was the second youngest of 7 children, his father died when he was 24 years old.
David’s father Hamilton Browne Livingston (1883-1949) was the youngest of 6 children.
Hamilton's father, Alexander Livingston (1842-1890) died when Hamilton was just 6 years old. This double tragedy meant that not much about the Livingston lineage was passed down to our Australian Livingston family.
The name and its variants is common in Co. Amargh where my great great grandfather (Alexander Livingston) was born. Presumably they were all part of the Plantation of Ulster and originated in Scotland, so maybe we are all vaguely related.
I have carried out some analysis of the Livingston name around Newry, Northern Ireland and have found 4 pockets of Livingston's within a small geographic area, Newry, Bessbrook, and the townlands of Maytown and Mullaghglass, they MUST be related but HOW?
Time, this study and the help of the any keen members will shed light onto that and the origins and distribution of all the Livingstons across the world.
