I have been studying the history of my father's family formany years and have published a book on the history.

Name origin

The English form of LACHLAN, a celtic term denoting a settler from Scandinavia. They seem to have arrived in SUFFOLK in the sixteenth century and are found in the south of the county mainly working as agricultural labourers.

Distribution of the name

Mostly found in SUFFOLK, but some spread into ESSEX and LONDON.
