This study was setup in 2023 after years of researching the Henneker family in New Zealand. The goal is to find the geographical distribution of the surname and to potentially identify the single place of origin along with whether the variations of the name would be related to a single area.
Henniker
Baron Henniker
A title in the Peerage of Ireland, first held by Sir John Henniker. Has had various roles in the political system and as a diplomat. There is no evidence so far that the Baron Henniker lineage is genealogically related to the Henneker line, further research is needed.
Further research is required, but there are potentially 200 people who currently have the Henneker surname.
Due to pronunciation issues, the surname's spelling on census can vary and therefore, it will take time to gather data on this.
New Zealand
James Joseph Henneker arrived in Lyttleton, New Zealand on the Stadt Haarlem in 1879 as per ship records.
United Kingdom
Henneker origins in the UK trace heavily back to Kent in South East England.
Australia
To be further researched – there is a grouping of Hennekers in Australia, potentially under the spelling Henniker or Heneker.
