Hello I am Maree from Tasmania in Australia and I am just starting out here.
My Good ancestors came from Macroom in Co Cork, Ireland. The surname Good is difficult to do a google search on as you get every good mentioned in anything e.g. They were having a good time, or any surname is good in it - Goodwin, Goodfellow etc. Its been tricky and sadly I know very little about my Irish Good family but I know the surname is quite common.
My 2 x great grand parents Peter and Alice Good arrived in Tasmania in 1837 on board the Bussorah Merchant. The Bussorah Merchant was a government-sponsored migrant ship, and most of the passengers were from County Cork, Ireland. They were mostly tradesmen and their families looking for a better life.
The surname of Good is believed to have its origins from England in medieval times. “God” was an old pre 7th century English word that meant “good”. “God” or “good” people are honored and revered, as they are seen as pious and respected members of society.
