Contact: Mr John Hanson

About the study

The Fosker study started back in the mid 1980s when I was trying to unravel my maternal great, great Grandmother Phoebe FOSKUEs family.

This soon progressed to a one-name study and I joined the Guild back in 1994.

Variant names

The main variants of the name are FOSCUE, FOSKUE, FOSQUE and FOSKEW.

During WW1 some families changed their name to Foster and these are traced where known.

Name origin

Strangely none of the major surname reference books mention the name FOSKER and the only variant mentioned is FOSKEW which is linked to the name Fortescuw. However the FOSKEWs in the study certainly have no links to Fortescue

Data

All references from the General Register Office Births, Marriages and Deaths have been collected and can be found online in the Guild Archive. In additional all census material for the 1841-1901 census has been extracted.

DNA

A FOSKER DNA project has been set up with Family Tree DNA.

Males bearing the name FOSKER, and the derivatives, are invited to join the project by donating a sample of their DNA.

Details of the project can be found at FOSKER DNA Project.

Links

The FOSKER website has been updated with a new set of data. Not all of the data has been loaded but will be added to over the next month or so. If you have any comments, alterations or additions please contact me
