The study now has over 55,000 names of Dowling's, variations and their connected partners and children from all over the world.
Projects incorporating names from sources systematically are always on the go, as are adding names from correspondents or when found by serendipity. There is seldom a day going by without new additions.
DNA results are now integrated into main database and website with a haplogroup tree that connects test takers to their haplogroup via a placeholder.
The registered variations are Dowling, Dowlin, Dowlan, Doolan, Doolin and Dooling. However, I collect others including Dulan, Dulin, etc. In fact, I will probably record anything that 'sounds like' Dowling spoken with a broad Irish accent!
I do not believe it is connected with the English Dolling or Dollard. I am alive to the possibility of an English variation from the West Country, which may be genetically separate, that evolved to become Dowling.
The original territory of the family was at Fearann ua n-Dunlaing (O'Dowling's Country) in Ireland. This area covered along Western bank of the River Barrow. The O'Dowling's were one of the Seven Septs of Laois (Leix), significant families in the County once called Queen's County.
There are historical occurrences of Dowling and these are included in website in a list called 'Notable'. - https://www.dowling.one-name-mwp1.net
Name frequency data is shown on the website - https://www.dowling.one-name-mwp1.net
Distribution data is shown on the website - https://www.dowling.one-name-mwp1.net
Essentially, Dowlings emanate from Ireland to predominantly the English speaking countries, with very few branches also in South America and non-English speaking locations.
Data is extracted from various sources to Family Tree Maker and transferred to the website via FileZilla. Most data on individuals is eventually connected to others.
All my data is stored in ONE place (well-backed-up) so, all the Study data I have is available on the website - https://www.dowling.one-name-mwp1.net
This 'Once philosophy' has included a recent development, where a separate DNA haplogroup database has been integrated into the main database, and therefore website, to show people with DNA tests connected to their haplogroups... and the tree of life!
'Living' people and 'Private' information is automatically excluded from the website apart from a few high public profile individuals.
DNA data is noted where available and known DNA test takers are listed on the website where available connected to their haplogroups. - https://www.dowling.one-name-mwp1.net
