About the study

I am researching the name Cloves which was my father's mother's maiden name. To date I've concentrated very much on occurrences in England and have yet to tackle the rest of the world.

Variant names

CLOVES is the main variant but I also include CLOVE. In addition I also track occurrences of Clovis as family rumour has it that this is where the Cloves name derives from.

Distribution of the name

Historically the name is most commonly found in South London and the Warwickshire, Staffordshire and Shropshire areas of England. Those in London were generally Thames Watermen and Lightermen.
