I started by putting together a family tree after my Grandfather died in 1991. He had done a lot of research into the family name. As time went on I started hitting brick walls, because of this I lost interest, then I decided as I had collected a lot of information about other branches of the Clothier family I should use this information to search for the links between these branches and how we are all related.    

Clother is one variant I have come across but I have also found an early variant or spelling which is Clothyer.

Looking at the difference between male and females I found there were 196 males and 157 females. The county with the highest number of people was Somerset with 249, the next highest county was Kent with 33 people and then Middlesex with 26. The ages range from 4 weeks up to 80 years old.  

In the 1921 census I have found there are 834 people with the surname Clothier.
