Study into the name Challenger and its main variants Challanger and Challinger. My interest was formed during the research of my own family tree and maternal family name. I became interested in its origins and the relative scarcity of the name. The study intends to try and document all Challenger's and the movement across the world over time. Initially this is concentrated to the UK demographics and will be expanded over time.
Challanger, Challinger
English: nickname from Middle English chalenger , chalangeour , an agent derivative of Middle English chalangen ‘to challenge’ (from Old French chalonger ), possibly anecdotal in origin or otherwise used to denote a quarrelsome or litigious person.
