I first started out on my voyage of discovery of the Scantlebury family history and origins of the surname when a cousin gave me the birthdays of my grandfather, Charles Widdon Scantlebury and his seven siblings, Albert, Arthur, John, William, Florence, Susan, Alice and Beatrice the children of John Bartley Scantlebury over a decade ago. I was then hooked visiting Cornwall to try find my Great-Great-Grandfather John Scantlebury and his ancestors. With a growing list of parish baptisms, marriages and burials in Cornwall together with a equally long list of GRO indexes of Scantlebury births, marriages and deaths it became increasing certain that would take the form of a one name study.
