Inscription:The accidental death of Herbert "Possum" Hunter Herbert "Possum" Hunter began work here at the Central Deborah Gold Mine in 1951, working in the stopes of level 16… with his mine partner and mate, Alf Lowther. On 22 January 1953, Alf did not arrive for the morning shift and Underground Manager at the time, William Moore, instructed Billy Moore to work for the day with Possum...Without any warning, a piece of quartz...slipped....struck Possum on the head....
