In Recognition of 40 years of Service to the Guild of One-Name Studies Posted 30 December 2021 by Julie GoucherAt the last AGM, Derek Palgrave, President of the Guild stepped down following 40 years of supporting the Guild of One-Name Studies. The Trustees felt that such support, recognition, and tenure, could not go without public recognition and a token of our appreciation. Our gift was an antique map, which contains both the Counties of Norfolk and Suffolk, which as luck would have it, are the two Counties in which both Derek and Pamela Palgrave find the surnames that are the foundations of their respective one-name and surname research. The map was framed and a plaque added. Sadly due to the ongoing pandemic we were not able to make the presentation more public, but we enlisted the help of former Chairman, Paul Howes who was able to make the journey to see Derek and Pamela and make the presentation on behalf of the Trustees and members. The Chairman, Paul Featherstone, received a letter from Derek thanking us for his map which now holds pride of place in his home, and thought his words towards the end of his letter are worth repeating here: “My association with the Guild has been a great joy probably because all of its members have a unique association not only with each other but with their family groups which are, more often than not, worldwide.” The Guild were pleased to appoint Col (Retired) Ian Swinnerton as President of the Guild.
