Change single study Describe your study The Guild Register supports a “hotel” style description of members’ studies. To facilitate this, the form below allows members to declare information about their studies for inclusion in future editions of the Register. Study codes are liable to change over time to fit in with changing requirements, and the codes given below are those recommended by the Guild’s Rules and Procedures governing Guild Membership and Surname Registration. Further guidance is available at the bottom of the page. Please note that changes to the following study properties are subject to review by the Registrar and will not be updated until the review is complete: variants, one-name study website, DNA website and one-name society. Variants The Guild recommends that members register no more than five or so variants, and that the variants registered are limited to those still found today. Members should be familiar with the distinction between Variants and deviants when choosing which variants to select as part of their study. Study website The website should ideally be dedicated to the member’s registered one-name study and include contact details, but contain no commercial offerings other than the adverts sometimes seen on free hosting sites. DNA website Note that it is not essential to quote a DNA website in order to establish that your study has an associated DNA Project. A DNA website should ideally be separate from a member’s general one-name study website or at least have a separate page with its own URL. It should include contact details but no commercial offerings, with the exception that some will be on sites hosted by a DNA testing company. It should be about the member’s registered study and variant surnames and ideally would not contain any unrelated surnames. The member would normally be the DNA project manager or have some other visible supporting role, but this is not essential. Society The one-name society should be for the member’s registered surname and the member would be expected to represent that society within the Guild. The Society should be fully constituted and the Registrar will expect to be sent a copy of the constitution. If further help is needed, please contact the Registrar.
