About the study

I have been researching the name SOUTHON for around 12 years now and with much help from another contact over that time I now am able to register the name as between us we have a lot of data

Variant names

Various mispellings have been found on Parish Registers and other records viewed for the SOUTHON name particularly SOUGHTON in Surrey and Parts of W. Sussex although that name has various families including SOUTHIN in both counties where its consistent and therefore not wrongly transcribed. SOWTON is another variant but that name also features in various pockets in Sussex parishes.

Name origin

It is believed the name relates to families who originated in the Southern parts of the UK mostly in Surrey and Sussex but also some spelled SOWTON in Devon

Data

Many treelines for the UK, also worldwide these have mostly been done by my colleague Warren as also have the BMD entries from 1838 onwards until nearly the present day. I concentrated mostly on the earlier records and have families in Surrey and Sussex. One of the largest ones is in Kent but relates to early records in other areas. Wills transcribed have been recorded too which have proved very helpful in gatherng my own SOUTHON line in Surrey and Sussex thus proving various theories on their trodden paths.
