Creating a website using a content management system on MWP Posted 8 March 2016 by Mike SpathakyPageDiscussionHistoryRevision for “Creating a website using a content management system on MWP” created on 8 March 2016 @ 05:29:53TitleCreating a website using a content management system on MWPContent<p>Read this page if you wish to create a one-name study website to be hosted on the <b>Members' Websites Project</b> facility using a content management system to create and maintain the pages.</p><hr /><p>A content management system (<b>CMS</b>) is a piece of software that is installed on your webserver (we can help with that) and creates the web pages from a database (also on the server) each time they are requested by someone's web browser. The software also helps you to create the pages without having to learn a language like HTML. Examples of CMS software that we can support are <b>WordPress</b> and <b>MediaWiki</b> and we recommed these partly for that reason and partly because they are free, open-source programs.</p><p>Guild members with experience of these two systems have volunteered to guide you in creating your website.</p><p>You may be able to use other CMS programs but we may not be able to assist you with the software installation or the web creation process at present.</p><p>A website made using a CMS system can display images as well as text and can enable viewers to download spreadsheet files (such XLS format), video clips and PDF (personal document format) files.</p><h3>Examples of websites created using a Content Management System (either WordPress or WikiMedia):</h3><p class="blue">We recommend looking at a number of different websites before making a choice.
