Title
Autosomal DNA testing
Content

Some Guild members are incorporating the results of autosomal DNA tests in their surname DNA projects. Autosomal DNA tests give you matches with genetic cousins on all your family lines. The tests are best used for making connections within the last five or six generations.

Autosomal DNA tests for genealogical purposes are offered by AncestryDNA and Family Tree DNA. A test is also offered by 23andMe but this test is primarily for health purposes.

For a comparison of the available autosomal DNA tests see the Guild's autosomal DNA testing: vendor comparison.

Guild members can buy Family Tree DNA's Family Finder test direct from the Guild at the discounted price of £60 inclusive of shipping. For further details see the page on DNA kits available from the Guild.

For detailed information on autosomal DNA testing see the many articles in the autosomal DNA portal in the ISOGG Wiki.

Autosomal DNA success stories from Guild members

Viv Dunstan. Autosomal DNA tests verify conventional paper-based genealogical research. Viv's Ancestry Blog, 29 December 2017.

Peter Whitlock. Family Finder DNA and one-namers.
