About the Study:
The Mendofik study has just commenced on 20 January 2019. This study was brought about because my mother knew nothing more than her grandparents on her father's side. So I set out to learn more about the Mendofik family and where they came from.
Name Origin and Meaning:
The Mendofik name is a Polish name found mainly in the Former Krosno Province and the Katowice Province. According to Instytut Jesyka Polskiego PAN, Pracowina Antroponimiczna, Al. Mickiewicza, 31-120 Krakow, Poland the name originated from a playful nickname consisting of two elements: Polish menda "crab-louse", figuratively also: "despicable being" and fikac "to kick, to hop". A lot of Polish surnames come from nicknames according to Prof. Dr. hab. Aleksandra Cieslikowa.
The name occurred in Poland 15 times between 1995-2005.
