Category: 1 - A study where research using core genealogical datasets and transcriptions is in its early stages.
Contact: Mr Paul Byrnes
After researching my own Byrnes family history for 15 years, I started the Byrnes one name study in 2017, my study is currently in its early stages and is currently focused on Ireland and the UK.
Byrnes is a variant of the surname Byrne. The surname Byrnes was "O Broin," in its Gaelic form, which means descendant of Bran. The family is descended from Bran, the king of Leinster who died in 1052.
Currently transcribing all instances of the Byrnes and Byrns surname on the Irish births, marriages and deaths and currently completed the following districts.
Newry Births 1864 - 1916
Castleblayney Births 1864 - 1916
Dundalk Births 1864 - 1916
I have also recorded all instances of Byrnes and Byrns on both 1901 and 1911 Census of Ireland.
