Guild Sharing & Preservation The thought of all your research going into the trash when you are no longer around to look after it is a worry for most of us. Before then, how do you let others know what you have discovered and recorded? On this page you’ll find ways the Guild can help you to share and preserve your precious research. If you’re not currently a member, why not join us? Sharing useful information has always been at the heart of the Guild, from helping each other with research queries, via our mailing list and our web forum, to sharing information on marriages, certificates, or wills in our indexes. Non-members cannot share information themselves, but they can look at some of the information shared by our members. Available to All Surname Search Use the search box in the centre at the top of each page to search for all references to a surname that are in members’ studies or indexes. Study Profiles See all the names currently registered with the Guild. Those with a grey background have a study profile with information about the study. Public Indexes The Guild has several public indexes, based on members’ work, that are searchable by the public as well as Guild members. They enable you to contact a Guild member and discuss where you have a common interest. These include: Global Marriages Index Inscriptions Index Modern Newspaper Index Surname Cloud Members’ Websites There are currently over 300 Members’ Websites, many of which can be searched to find information on individuals and families. You can view a list of the sites here. Available to Guild Members Only Members must be logged in to access the links below. Study Profiles Every Guild member who registers a surname study can create a single page Study Profile to promote his or her research. You don’t need any specialist knowledge to do this; it ‘s as simple as using a word-processor. Your profile page can contain information about your study, links to any website/s and your contact details, for others to get in touch with you. You’ll be issued with a free Guild email address to use, so you don’t need to reveal your personal email. Journal of One-Name Studies The Guild publishes a quarterly journal and members are invited to submit articles related to their study. This is an opportunity to share your findings with other members. Members Websites Program (MWP) No matter how much you pay your website host to keep your website up and running, the money will eventually run out. In 2014, Guild members came up with a plan to preserve members’ work for as long as the Guild exists. The plan involved giving members web space on a server paid for by the Guild. Don’t worry if you have no experience in creating a website; there is plenty of support available from our members and the MWP team. Visit the MWP pages to read more about the program and the types of website that can be included. Family Search Archive We have also developed a relationship with Family Search and Guild members have the option of uploading a GEDCOM file into a special section of the Family Search website which is specifically for our One-Name Studies.
