Strat Liddiard Papers – A Liddiard study from circa 1880-1960 from 3 generations of Liddiard’s

25 March 2023

7:30 pm - 9:00 pm

Guild contact: Julie Goucher

Join us as the Guild of One-Name Studies connects with the Liddiard Family History Society, and as we walk back in time and look at the invaluable research into the Liddiard name carried out by William Bedford Liddiard (1849-1918) his son Edgar Stratton Liddiard (1878-1963) and grandson Alexander Rockley Liddiard (1917-1993).

The photograph shown here is of William Bedford holding his grandson Alexander Rockley Liddiard, with Edgar Stratton looking on.

I consider myself very lucky to have a copy of 85% of the collection, which includes some records that are no longer available. This line is from the Ogbourne St Andrew Liddiard’s, a line that we can prove from 1453 right through till today. The study was a full-time job for them, as they travelled extensively throughout England seeking out the records, they corresponded with many archives and other Liddiard’s to pull together not just their own line but many other lines of the Liddiard family.

Their citations and references to the documents they looked at have allowed me to walk in their footsteps and help transcribe and preserve this amazing collection of papers. The record’s include wills, tax rolls, letters, photos, parish records and birth death and marriage certificates and of course family trees. Even today I consider it a How to guide for a One-Name Study.
