It includes the Suffragette struggle in Ireland, the Ulster Covenant of 1912, the formation of the Irish Volunteers and the Ulster Volunteers, the Dublin Lock-out of 1913, the First World War, the Easter Rising, the War of Independence, Partition, and the subsequent Irish Civil War. As well as addressing the historical events it shows how to research ancestors caught up in the period, whether on the British or Irish side, and from across the island and beyond. The Decade of Centenaries is an all-island based period of reflection, led by both Irish governments (north and south), which kicked off in 2012 and which culminates next year (2023). The purpose has been to finally provide license to people to talk about events from a century ago, the most tumultuous period in Irish history since the Plantations. Everyone with an Irish family in this period will have connections somewhere along the line, and this talk will explain the context of events and where to find the relevant records About the Speaker Copyright Chris Paton, Used with permission Northern Irish born Chris Paton is a genealogist and writer based in Ayrshire, where he runs the Scotland’s Greatest Story research service at www.scotlandsgreateststory.co.uk. I have scheduled this two hours later because of of many requests for a later time from those in the western time zones. It also is slightly more humane for our members in the South Pacific region. Anyway, we'll see if this is better. I think I have the Sydney time right but since we went to summer time here I'm not sure. But we will try to line up people to help with one-name problems and probably discuss several other subjects Marie Byatt is inviting you to a scheduled Zoom meeting.
