2018 Webinar Series – No 10 Back to School with Your ONS with Tessa Keough This is the tenth webinar in the Guild’s 2018 ten-part webinar series. Wait a minute – we still have one more webinar scheduled in October! Our last webinar for 2018 is All About the Guild, which will be include a tour of our website, a discussion of the benefits and services the Guild offers, and a sneak peek at what we have planned for our 40th anniversary (and we will introduce the theme for our 2019 Webinar Series). But I’m getting ahead of myself. Back to School with Your One-Name Study focuses on the educational opportunities available online and offline for all of us working on our genealogy and, more importantly, our surname research and one-name studies. No matter how much we think we know, our studies can always be improved by a refresh – whether that is delving into a new record set, taking our research to a new country, finding those who share our surname in a new county or province, or perhaps learning more about DNA to include it as part of our study. Whether you want to master a new subject matter or a new skill, why not come learn more about the educational opportunities that are available. This month Tessa Keough will provide tips and suggestions to assist you in going back to school with your one-name study. Let’s meet the presenter Tessa Keough is a genealogist and lecturer, based in Seattle, Washington. She holds a Certificate in Genealogical Research and Social History from the University of Washington. She focuses on specialized studies (one-name and one-place studies), technology, using genealogy management software, and using productivity tools. Tessa also writes for the In-Depth Genealogist. As a speaker, she has given several talks at RootsTech and SCGSJamboree, as well several webinars through Legacy Family Tree Webinars, the SCGS Extension Series, and Family History Fanatics, as well as individual genealogy societies. As a Guild member, Tessa has volunteered in various capacities from the beginning of her membership. Currently, Tessa serves as the USA West Region representative, the USA National representative, and is a member of the Marketing Action Team. Tessa blogs about her research and genealogy topics (although her blog The Keough Corner has been sorely neglected for the past year and is being revamped) and has a YouTube channel (TessaWatch) where she makes videos about specialized studies (Twenty with Tessa) and technology (Fun with Excel & Legacy Virtual Users’ Group). Tessa can be found on social media at @TessaKeough – she uses Facebook for her genealogy life and Twitter for her real life. We had a great handout for this webinar. The websites mentioned by Tessa are shown as annotations in the recording. The recording and the handout are available (Back to School with your ONS) are available NOW and they will remain available to the public until October 4th. A reminder that the Webinar recordings are always available to Guild members (just another benefit of membership!).
