  1. Hi, I’m a software engineer with a passion for family history research tools. I have a specific goal in mind to create a tool that makes location of family names easy and fun. To build a prototype I am looking for a data source that is easy to access and provides acceptable performance. This is a side project at home. I currently work for a restaurant management company. I have no funds for purchasing use of your data. I have no desire to copy the Guild’s data only to access it through searches to dynamically present the data in my project’s unique way.

Would the the Guild of One-Name Studies have an interest in providing a data access API for such a project? I would let the Guild of One-Name Studies have a free non-exclusive license for the use of the viewer should you ever have interest in providing it to your guild members. The data will not be used without your permission. However I would need to show other data source providers the viewer to hopefully generate some interest in the project.

    A little about me:
I began my career out of college as a programmer at WordPerfect Corporation (SSI software in 1986). I gained a lot of experience in my 13 years at WordPerfect and was an architect on multiple version. WordPerfect was purchased by Corel Corporation and moved to Canada. I then worked over time at the following companies:
    Sizzling Platter

In 1994 I had an inspirational idea to create a genealogy viewer. It has become a dream I hope to make come true. In 1994 the technologies required for this viewer did not exist. Now the technology is readily available. However, I still need to locate a source of data. The focus of the data is more toward the surname than the given names. I plan to present the surnames regardless of direct family relations. Information about the person will only be seen if the user clicks on an image that represents the person.

The key to this idea is that the earth is the perfect viewer of family history. I’m pretty open about what I plan to do. This is a non-profit endeavor. Does the Guild of One-Name Studies have a REST web service API? Would the guild consider providing a license to access it (not copy it).

    Thank you,
