About the study

in 2008 I found a Doidge card index in Devon Family History Society that helped me get back three generations on my own Doidge’s. Since then I have discovered that this person who had obviously been doing a one-name study (although possibly only in Devon) had also drawn up loads of trees that are also in DFHS. When looking at census and civil registration, this is clearly a devon based name. In the 1841 census, 67% are in Devon, falling to 44% in 1911. This is a fairly new study (October 2010), so still a lot to learn!

Historical occurrences of the name

Although I have not been on this long, I have already discovered that John Doidge was the last person to be publicly hanged at Bodmin in 1862.
