The name COATH hails from Cornwall and the earliest reference I can find to it is in the 1400's in Newlyn East. It is believed in the cornish language to mean 'old' or 'elder'.

History of the name

Amongst notable individuals to share this name are Robert David Coath, the WW1 fighter ace, and John Williams Coath, the English born Australian slaver who was responsible for the law regarding kidnapping being changed.
