several spelling errors and mistranscriptions but no true variants. It can be challenging to find individuals on census returns for example it has been found mistranscribed as follows
UK census GUINPU, INIFF, KNIPP, QENPP, QINPP, QUIFF, QUIFP, QUIPPS, SNIPP
US census DNIPP, DUIPP, GRIPP, GRUPP, GUIPP, IMPF, IUIPP, QNIPP, QUIPPS, QUWIPP, SNEPP
Canadian census GUIPP, QUEPP, QUIBBP, TRUPP, TWIP, ZUIPP
Early occurences of the name at Padiham, Lancs 1577, Guisely, Yorks 1585 and Owersby, Lincs 1602 all arise from families of Whipps living in the same parish.
It is not uncommon for placenames and surnames beginning with QU or WH to show this variation in spelling. eg there is a Quarles in Norfolk and a Wharles in Lancashire both place names having the same original meaning of stone circle
The origin of the surname Whipp is alas not clear.
It is not as one source suggests a variants of Quaife. It is not as another source states a variant of Kipp or Kype. It is not derived from the Latin word quippe
I have evidance that all present day Quipps can be traced back to one or other of two marriages in Lincolnshire. This takes the form of two extended family trees
